Set design for our music video

As we will not be using any specific set, only the outdoors, we will not be needing a set design. However, we are hoping to set up our band to perform their song at the top of Primrose Hill so we would therefore have the instruments set up on the top of the hill. This would include the drum kit, the microphone and the amplifiers for the guitars.

Lighting for my music video

We will be having natural outside lighting for our music video as we will be filming outside, and therefore, there is no need for bringing other forms of lighting outside. Natural lighting has been successfully used in many other music videos such as indie rock band The Verve's "Bitter Sweet Symphony", Kiesza's "Hideaway" and Supergrass' "Alright".

Props for shoot days

The only props that we will be using for our music video include two guitars with their two cases, a mic stand and mike, amplifiers, a drum kit and sticks and three pieces of lighting equipment, as most of the video will be using natural outside lighting.
We will be using:

Two amplifiers similar to this, however it will not cost any money as we are borrowing it from school

Lighting equipment like these which we will be borrowing from school.

Drum sticks which we will also be borrowing from school.

Alongside a Yamaha drum kit also borrowed from the music department at our school.

Our bass guitarists own guitar case which looks like this

Alongside his own bass guitar, similar looking to this

Our guitarists own guitar case which looks like this

As well as his very own guitar which looks like this

Therefore, as we will be borrowing all of this equipment, we will not need to spend any money renting or buying any of it, thus helping us to budget for the rest of our cohesive package.

Locations for my music video

We chose to film at the Barbican Centre as it is an attractive outdoor area and we feel that it shows off London really nicely.
We will also be filming around Southbank as it is a common place for Londoners to go so I think it is quite nice to show this hustle and bustle with time-lapse shots.
These houses by Primrose Hill would be perfect to film by as they are really authentic, attractive and colourful, conveying the band positively as they surround themselves with colour.
Again, Primrose Hill high street is a nice area in London and as it is a highstreet it shows how the band are just normal guys from normal areas who are very talented and want to share their music with the world.
We chose to have them run up a hill in the video to signify them chasing their dreams and Primrose Hill is perfect for this as it is a lovely, natural area and close to the Primrose high street.

Analysis of my animatic

After drawing a storyboard with over 40 different shots drawn on paper after we thought about which shots would be effective and why, we made this animated video of all of those different shots. In order to make this clear, we used a 12 megapixel camera with optical image stabilization to take images of each frame so that we could convert it all into this video. We did this so that we could visualize how our music video would look with each shot in place, and alter the video if need be. We used Premiere pro to convert each shot into the video and edited each frame to the beat of the song. However, we realized that we did not have enough shots as a majority of the shots last more than seven seconds, which has made the video appear less exciting than it could be. We also realized that the tracking shots we wanted to use are not able to be portrayed properly as the animatic has been done with still images and therefore it is not a realistic representation of our music video. On the other hand, this animatic has enabled us to realise that we will need to add more shots on the actual shoot day. Furthermore, as we have drawn each shot in detail it gave us a realistic visualization of how our shots will look on the day, therefore it should allow us to make an effective and thorough music video.

Band's costumes

Analysis of my storyboard

I think that my storyboard is quite effective as each shot has been drawn in detail and conveys the narrative really well as it shows the band members meeting up and the lead singer lip syncing into the camera. Additionally, it is clear to see what is happening in each shot and that it takes place in the streets of London. It is also clear from the storyboard that the genre is rock as you can see the band members holding their instruments, and eventually, playing them together as a band in their performance at the end. Moreover, as they are seen with their instruments, and are seen meeting up, it depicts how they are a group of boys who are in a rock band and therefore portrays their star image. Therefore, it effectively shows the narrative of the music video in a way which also clarifies the genre of music. However, my only concern is that they may not be enough for the whole music video so we shall see when we make the animatic.
