Lyrics to our music video song

Play The Game

Oh, my world is turning inside out
Say I'm crying, breaking up inside
See, my heart is sinking to my knees
Tell me brother, what is it you need?

I don't wanna be a pretender
I just wanna be me

Nobody
Nobody
Nobody's gonna carry you
Try harder
Get smarter
Dream bigger
Play the game

Oh, you're blaming everybody else
Stop complaining and do it for yourself
Feed your body, your spirit and your mind
Oh my brother, just enjoy the ride

I don't wanna be a pretender
I just wanna be me

Nobody
Nobody
Nobody's gonna carry you
Try harder
Get smarter
Dream bigger
Play the game

Everybody's got a story to tell
When you're looking up at heaven but you're stuck in hell, come on
You gotta play, play the game

Red lights weren't coming round
You got a long way to go and you're holding it down, come on
Play the game

Nobody
Nobody
Nobody's gonna carry you
Try harder
Get smarter
Dream bigger
Play the game

Nobody
Nobody
Nobody's gonna carry you
Try harder
Get smarter
Dream bigger
Play the game

Influence from Alan Walker's "Faded" on new idea

The music video involves a man walking through a deserted area in order to find something that is significant to his life. As the song is quite slow-paced  in tempo, this gives the song and video quite a serious and almost dull feel. However, once sped up to 1.5, it makes the song more upbeat, and completely changes the mood to make it seem as if the man is going on an adventure that will change his life. This also alters the affect of the location as it is very desolate. Therefore, a desolate and abandoned location would be suitable for our upbeat song.
However, we could also film our singer walking around a town and use slow motion to make it more effective, just as this video is.

Finalising the band members

We chose these people based on their ability to play the instruments, lip syncing skills, presence and image. We thought that as a band, they would look good together and their skills would help the video look better. Moreover, as they all play instruments/sing really well, this would make the it more realistic in terms of looking as if they were playing.

Auditions for the band

This is Alex auditioning for the lead singer. We thought that he was best for the role as he has good stage presence and lip syncs very well.

This is Caleb auditioning for the bass guitarist. We thought that he was the best for the role as he plays very well and therefore it will be realistic in the music video.
This is Ben auditioning for the drummer. We thought he was the best for the role as he plays consistently with incredible skill.
This is George auditioning for the guitarist. We thought he was best for the role as he has amazing skills and his long hair gives him a good image, very suitable for the band.

Email to record company

We had to email RCA, which is Kodaline's record company as in order to be able to make the music video, we needed permission to use their song. Therefore, below we have the email in which we sent so that we could create our music video.

Development of my music video idea

After discussing with my group which idea of ours we should take on and turn into a music video, we decided that we did not think any of them would be 100% doable or effective and as I am working with a group of boys, they did not want to do a song about romance. Therefore we have found another song which is more suited to all of our tastes and hopefully we can make it as effective as we can.

Feedback on idea

The audience seemed to like the idea of the star meeting his girlfriend in a cafe and proposing to her on a beach. However, they got confused about the narrative and star image. Additionally, as I am working with a group of boys, I believe that this idea is too "romantic" for them. Having discussed this with the rest of my group, we decided to change the idea to something that we would all be happy to produce. we decided to change the star image to demonstrate a band being more organic. An issue with the location of Southend-on-sea was travelling to the location, whereas with London, it is much easier for us to navigate our way around as we all live there. furthermore, as we have changed it to an indie-rock band, this expands our target audience to a much wider variety or people.

Different music genres

I personally prefer the indie-rock genre as combined, they are up-beat and are not synthetic like other genres, such as pop.
