Similar music video to ours

We found that our music video had the same low angle shot as this one with a building in it. However, ours does not have the black and white grainy effect. As we quite appeal to this shot and the effect, we decided we would somehow incorporate it into our  music video. This grainy, black and white effect is extremely effective to the music video as it creates a rocky feeling to it, and we would quite like to create the same feeling as our genre is indie-rock. Although we do quite like this effect, it would completely change our colourful theme of street art and therefore we could just involve the grainy effect somehow without making it black and white. We like the juxtaposition of the urban concrete jungle with our singer as it makes him look more organic and adds a 'hardness' to him and thus adds to the organic nature in which we are trying to portray for this band and helps sell the bands star image as being less pop and more rock through the focus on the urban landscape.

Audience feedback for music video

We played our music video to our class and the class in the year below and received feedback. Overall the feedback was fairly positive but there were some areas to develop. These include the following;
Some of the lip-syncing was out of time and therefore we need to work on this
There were too many shots of the singer with too much head space and so we need to focus more on medium close-ups to develop his star image
It was felt that the narrative was unclear and it was not fully understood as to the role of the rest of the band - they appeared to be meeting up but it was not obvious why
To overcome this obstacle we will focus more on the band footage in the studio as this will create more of a unity between the performance and narrative element
Overall, the feedback was constructive and although we are happy with our first draft, we understand that there are areas where we can improve it and therefore to receive this feedback, it has helped us hone in on those areas that we need to develop and we will focus more on looking at close-up shots of the singer and working upon the link between the performance and narrative

Narrative change and no drummer

At first, it came to our attention that we could not have our drummer perform with his drums at the top of Primrose Hill as there would be an issue with transporting the drums and we may get in trouble performing there with the band. Therefore we chose to then shoot the performance in our school studio. However, after recording the footage of our band in the recording studio and reviewing it, we realised that the shots we used were not as effective as we thought they would be and so we cut it out of the video as a whole. This in turn changed our narrative slightly as the band were no longer coming together to perform, but were coming together to fulfil their dream of being in a band. This is now conveyed symbolically as they run up the hill at the end, signifying how they are running into their future. Although the drummer is the backbone of the band, it is not vital for him to be featured. This has been done in other bands music videos, such as The Verve.

Practicing shots

As we had decided that most of our shots would be tracking shots, we felt that it was necessary to practice these shots before we did them for the real music video.

We quite liked how casual this one was as he walked back into the classroom so maybe we will involve one of the band members casually walking past the camera as we feel that the camera catches them just being them and not putting on a facade for the audience, thus reinforcing their organic nature.

Moreover, we thought that the shot where he is walking directly in front of the camera and looking at the camera is quite powerful as he is directly addressing them, building a connection with the audience and his fans. Therefore, we will be using this kind of shot a lot as we feel that it is extremely powerful in increasing the positiveness of the bands star image.

We also liked how he walks down the stairs in this and the camera follows so we will definitely be using some shots where the band members are seen walking down stairs as it shows a journey of how they are getting from one place to another, representing their chase for their dreams and showing their star image in a positive light as they are willing to climb heights to get to where they want to be with their music.
